The Qatari Emiri Navy (QEN) is set to receive the first Musherib-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) from Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri.
The company held a delivery ceremony at its Muggiano (La Spezia) yard.

In 2019, Fincantieri commenced the construction of the vessel, with the launch ceremony conducted in September 2020.
With a length of 63m and width of 9.2m, the new OPV can cruise at a top speed of 30k.
Designed as per the RINAMIL for Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) rules, it will be able to carry 38 crew members.
The company noted that the construction of Musherib along with Discovery Princess cruise ship saw the involvement of almost 8,000 people, about 650 companies and an overall 9.2 million work hours.

Fincantieri said in a statement: “This milestone relates to high-tech projects in different shipbuilding segments, confirming that Fincantieri is able to meet its commitments on time and on budget.
“More important from a management and organisational point of view, the goal has been achieved although lasting of the pandemic.”
The OPV was ordered by the Qatari Ministry of Defence as part of the national naval acquisition programme.
Under a contract worth $4.5bn (€4bn), Fincantieri will supply seven surface vessels, including four corvettes, one amphibious vessel, and two patrol vessels OPV as well as support services.
In October last year, Fincantieri performed the technical launch of the QEN’s newest Al Zubarah-class corvette Al Khor in Muggiano.
