Perspecta Labs has secured several contracts to support the full-scale testing and prototyping of dual-use fifth generation (5G) technology for the US Department of Defense (DoD).

The company has won two prime contracts with a cumulative face value of $8.1m and a 39-month ‘period of performance’, provided all options are exercised.

Under the $5m prime award, which is the first of the two contracts, Perspecta will develop a 5G-enabled smart warehouse focused on transhipment between shore facilities and naval units.

Work will be performed for Navy Smart Warehouse 5G Network Enhancement Prototype at Naval Base Coronado in California for 36 months.

Under the second contract, which is valued at $3.1m, the company will address the challenge of ‘enabling Air Force radars to dynamically share spectrum with 5G cellular services’ in the 3.1GHz–3.45GHz band.

Activities under the contract will be conducted for Dynamic Spectrum Utilization at Hill Air Force Base (HAFB) in Utah for 39 months.

Perspecta Labs president Petros Mouchtaris said: “Operational-scale experimentation and testing are critical to achieving the potential of commercial 5G infrastructure in industries from defence, transportation and logistics to critical infrastructure, health care and manufacturing.

“Perspecta Labs is excited to design, implement and deploy dual-use 5G prototypes at DoD test sites as part of the world’s largest full-scale 5G experiments.”

Furthermore, Perspecta Labs will act as a subcontractor on two additional contracts.

In August 2019, Perspecta won a position on a potential seven-year US Navy cyberspace science, research, engineering and technology integration programme.
