Schiebel's Camcopter S-100 unmanned air system (UAS) has successfully completed flight trials at Andøya Test Center (ATC) in Norway.

The trials were carried out to demonstrate its various capabilities to the Norwegian Coastguard, Royal Norwegian Navy, Royal Norwegian Airforce, Norwegian Coastal Administration, Police Directorate and other Norwegian authorities.

The test period saw the Camcopter S-100 perform a series of challenging demonstration flights, which were held in northern Norway approximately 300km north of the Arctic Circle.

Schiebel's UAS took off from Andøya Air Base and successfully demonstrated its ability to conduct several coastal patrol tasks.

It aksi proved its capability to provide essential data such as the high-quality, real-time electro-optical / infrared systems (EO / IR) footage generated by L3 Wescam’s MX-10, in addition to successfully tracking vessels and identifying persons that had fallen overboard.

ATC chief executive officer Gunnar Jan Olsen said: “It was a pleasure to finally see the S-100 flying in Norway.

The Schiebel autonomous system also demonstrated its range clearance capability in a separate exercise by scanning an area of approximately 2,500km² for vessels.

Camcopter S-100 UAS is an operationally proven capability used for military and civilian applications. 

The vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) system does not need any prepared area or supporting equipment to enable launch and recovery.

It is also capable of operating under adverse weather condition, with a beyond line-of-sight capability of up to 200km over both land and sea.
