The Royal Australian Navy has awarded a contract to Schiebel to deliver the Camcopter S-100 unmanned aerial system (UAS).

Under the contract, Schiebel will also provide a three-year follow-on contractor logistics support.

In February 2016, the Australian Navy issued an international request for tender (RfT) for a UAS capability, while the contract with Schiebel was signed at the end of December after a thorough proposal evaluation and negotiations.

Schiebel Group owner Hans Georg Schiebel said: “We feel most honoured by the Royal Australian Navy’s decision to purchase our Camcopter S-100 UAS.

“We are sure that the S-100 will prove to be an effective asset that will set a new benchmark for UAS capability.”

The Camcopter S-100 UAS supports naval customers, with missions completed on more than 30 different vessels worldwide in every environment ranging from the tropics to the Arctic.

Designed for use for both military and civilian applications, the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAS requires no prepared area or supporting launch or recovery equipment.

The Camcopter S-100 can operate at day and night, as well as in adverse weather conditions, with a beyond line-of-sight capability out to 200km, both on land and at-sea.
