The Indian Navy's second Kalvari-class stealth submarine, Khanderi, has been launched at the Mazagon Dock (MDL) in Mumbai, India.
Designed by French company DCNS and developed by MDL, the Kalvari-class vessels are based on Scorpene type diesel-electric attack submarine design.

The second boat is part of the Project 75 (P75) contract to construct six Scorpene-class submarines, awarded to DCNS.
In a statement posted on the Press Information Bureau Government of India, naval staff chief admiral Sunil Lanba said: "Submarine Khanderi compares with the best in the world, speaks highly of the experience and expertise our shipbuilders have gained over the years."
"As Indian Navy celebrates Golden Jubilee of the submarine arm in 2017, the induction of Project 75 submarines would mark the beginning of a new chapter in our submarine capabilities.”
The new vessel will now undergo trail of events that will lead the submarine to be set afloat.

By GlobalDataCurrently, the second vessel is undergoing pressure testing, setting-to-work and commissioning of wide range systems, which will continue after the launch.
The vessel will be subjected to rigorous trials and tests, in harbour, as well as at sea, both on and under surface.
The second submarine is expected to be delivered to the Indian Navy by the end of this year.
Due to be commissioned and operational in the Indian Navy by the middle of this year, the first Scorpene-class Kalvari is currently undergoing its major sea trials.
The remaining four submarines will be delivered to the Indian Navy by 2020 at an interval of nine months.
