Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Technical Solutions division has been awarded a new contract to deliver engineering services and technical, logistics, maintenance and installation / alteration support to the US Naval Sea System Command's (NAVSEA) Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD).

The deal will see the AMSEC unit of HII's Fleet Support Group carry out the work for NSWCPD’s Cargo and Weapons Handling division in major home ports across the US, Canada and Egypt.

The scope of work includes ship change documents, ship alterations, system repairs, operability testing, authorised work items, certification and inspections.

Additional activities such as drawing and technical manual development, fabrication of material and support for cargo / weapons and personnel elevators, dumbwaiters, magazine-handling systems, aircraft elevators and vertical package conveyors are also outlined in the plans.

The work will be conducted on US Navy and Military Sealift Command vessels, including Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) and Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) class amphibious assault ships, T-AOE-class fast combat support ships, and landing platform / dock (LPD) class amphibious transport docks. 

LSD-class dock landing vessels and T-AKE-class dry cargo / ammunition ships will also be included in the inspection and repair works.

HII Fleet Support Group Elevator Support Unit programme manager Dave Henshaw said: “Our technical experts have a commitment to safety and quality, and have continuously supported the NSWCPD’s mission to deploy critically needed weapons and cargo-handling equipment technologies to the fleet.”

The approximately $39m cost-plus-fixed-fee contract is expected to be completed by April 2022 if all options are exercised.
