GE Marine has been selected to deliver its LM2500 marine gas turbines to power the Indian Navy’s next-generation P17A stealth frigate.
The gas turbines will be provided by GE’s in-country partner Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine division in India.

HAL is licensed by GE to carry out assembling and testing of the LM2500 gas turbines before installation.
It will also provide service and comprehensive support, including inspection, spare parts, maintenance and equipment overhauls for GE marine gas turbines.
GE Marine operations vice-president Brien Bolsinger said: “We are delighted that the Indian Navy has once again chosen our reliable LM2500 gas turbines, now for this next-generation P17A frigate which is a follow-on to the Shivalik-class P17 programme.
“GE’s in-country partner HAL already has delivered 11 LM2500 gas turbines to the Indian Navy, including those that power three P17 frigates Shivalik, Satpura and Sahyadri launched in April 2003, June 2004, and May 2005, respectively.”

The LM2500 marine gas turbine is a simple-cycle, twoshaft, high-performance engine, which has been derived from GE’s TF39 and CF6-6 aircraft engines
It consists of a gas generator, power turbine, attached fuel and lubes oil pumps, a fuel control and speed governing system, as well as controls and devices for starting and monitoring engine operations.
