The Royal Danish Navy’s HDMS Iver Huitfeldt frigate has successfully conducted sea trials of an anti-torpedo decoy off the coast of North Zealand, Denmark.
Jointly conducted by DCNS, Chemring Countermeasures, and Terma, the Torpedo Defence Solution integrates Terma’s C-Guard decoy launching system with DCNS’s Canto torpedo decoy and the Chemring launch module.

The Terma C-Guard system is designed to protect ships against missile and torpedo threats.
The trials were aimed to prove the Canto 130mm decoy’s capability to distract incoming torpedoes from their original target. In this case, the target was the ship from which the decoy was launched.
DCNS Underwater Weapons Business Unit director René d’Ambrières said: "All expectations set before the trials were fulfilled and DCNS, Chemring, and Terma are all very satisfied to confirm their capacity to develop cutting-edge anti-torpedo warfare capabilities, including the design and production of the countermeasure, sea-proven on-board naval platforms, which is a real asset in the naval market worldwide."
The new anti-torpedo decoy has been designed to start emitting numerous acoustic signals once launched from C-Guard into water.

By GlobalDataThese acoustic signals mask the noise from the ship and stage false targets, subsequently confusing the homing ability of the incoming torpedo while enabling the ship to steer away from the torpedo target zone to safety.
The trials received support from the Danish Navy and the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO).
