Bergen Group Services has been selected to conduct an inspection and survey project on the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Alta-class minesweeper, KNM Rauma.

Slated to begin in early January next year, to be carried out for an estimated period of 12 weeks, the project is part of a framework agreement signed by the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organisation (FLO) with Bergen and two other companies.

Under the agreement, the companies will be contracted to conduct ship maintenance and repair of certain types of military vessels.

"The contract is an important contribution to the Bergen Group's long-term strategy."

The latest contract follows the successful completion of a similar project by Bergen on the Norwegian Navy’s Oksøy-class minehunter, KNM Hinnøy, during the first half of this year.

Bergen Group Services CEO Frode Johansson said: “Bergen Group Services is pleased being competitive on the implementation of inspection and condition monitoring at yet another minesweeper.

“The contract is an important contribution to the Bergen Group's long-term strategy to further develop our expertise and capacity related to complex maritime projects and service operations.”

Bergen has also entered into long-term agreements with the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue and various maritime transport companies.

Early this year, Bergen received a contract extension from FLO to perform technical maintenance for the Norwegian Navy's frigate class vessels.

In February 2014, the company secured a framework contract from the FLO to maintain and service MTU engines on the navy’s Skjold-class coastal corvettes, minesweeper vessels and frigates, as well as the Combat Leopard vehicles.
