French defence company Naval Group has entered a long-term strategic partnership agreement to deliver in-service support (ISS) for the vessels sold by the group to the Egyptian Navy.
The agreement was signed by the parties at the Egypt Defense and Security Exhibition (EDEX).

Naval Group noted that the agreement will lay the basis for the contract surrounding the maintenance activity and modernisation of the Egyptian fleet.
Under the ISS programme, Naval Group will deliver services for the vessels over a five-year period.
The vessels delivered by the group to the Egyptian Navy include Gowind corvettes, the FREMM multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr and two Mistral-class landing helicopter dock vessels.
The maintenance activity under the ISS programme will be managed through a new Naval Group subsidiary based in Alexandria, Egypt.

By GlobalDataEgyptian employees participating in the activity will be able to hone their skills, which in turn will help support construction of the three Gowind corvettes being built locally.
Naval Group is under contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the manufacture of four Gowind corvettes.
Of the four corvettes, the first warship ENS Elfateh was built at Naval Group’s manufacturing site in Lorient, France, and delivered to Egypt in September last year, while the second vessel Port-Said launched this September.
Port-Said is the first Egypt-built Gowind-class corvette being constructed in Alexandria Shipyard through a technology transfer arrangement.
The Gowind 2500 corvette is equipped with modern technological features that have been specially developed and implemented by the French company for naval defence purposes.
