Mikros Systems has completed the installation of the AN/SYM-3 system onboard another littoral combat ship of the US Navy.

The installation is part of an existing indefinite-delivery indefinite-quality (IDIQ) contract to provide advanced maintenance systems for the navy’s LCS vessels.

Under the ADEPT Distance Support Sensor Suite (ADSSS) contract, Mikros will also perform installations on multiple future naval ships.

Mikros Systems programme manager Lori Ogles said: “We are very pleased to report that our team has just returned from the Naval Station in Mayport, Florida where we completed installation of the navy’s AN/SYM-3 system on another LCS platform.

“Our personnel worked together with the ship’s crew and other US Navy personnel to complete all planned work while the ship was making preparations for Hurricane Dorian. The Mikros team is expected to return later this month to complete final testing.”

The SYM-3 system is designed to support the LCS’ combat system with capabilities such as remote status monitoring, networking and data analytics.

Key activities of the system include providing real-time feedback on system performance and carrying out data analysis to predict future failures to support maintenance and logistics needs.

The company is also looking to incorporate ADSSS technology to other platforms across the navy.

Ogles added: “There are many other navy systems and ships where Condition-Based Maintenance capabilities are planned, and we are working diligently to apply the SYM-3 system to these and other applications across the navy.

“Our systems provide a cyber-secure environment for remote monitoring and predictive analytics to keep the ship and its systems ready to fight.”

In June last year, the firm completed the installation and testing of the system on USS Freedom Freedom-class LCS.
