The Qatari Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) has signed an agreement with Leonardo for a Naval Operation Centre (NOC) to enhance its naval surveillance.

The announcement was made at the seventh edition of Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) in Qatar.

DIMDEX is a three-day flagship regional programme for the international maritime defence and security industry.

Under the agreement, Leonardo will build a NOC to provide the QENF with command, control, and coordination capabilities for sea-based operations.

It will also allow Qatar’s armed forces to perform integrated monitoring with the help of high level of cooperation between all the field sensors.

The NOC will help control and monitor Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), territorial water and adjacent waters, which will improve cooperation between national maritime security agencies.

According to Leonardo, the centre will feature innovative systems and technologies along with complete integration of maritime and air components.

The technologies will enhance sea situational awareness and cover different spectrums of security to support decision coordination between the national agencies.

Once developed, the centre will support the QENF’s tactical and operational decision-making processes, as well as rapid interventions along the command chain.

Furthermore, Leonardo is engaged in various maritime projects with QENF, such as equipping combat system integrator.
