Leonardo has been selected to deliver OTO 76/62 Super Rapid naval gun systems for the latest K130 corvettes of the German Navy.

The delivery will be carried out under a contract received by the company from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).

Under the agreement, the company will provide the navy with seven OTO 76/62 systems, in addition to associated training and spare parts.

With delivery completion, Leonardo naval guns will become the reference defence system for the German Navy, which has already tested capabilities of the compact version of the system installed on the first batch of K130 corvettes.

Currently in service with nearly 60 navies worldwide, the Leonardo weapon can be integrated on any type and class of vessel, including smaller units.

Depending on the configuration, the system can also include the STRALES capability to fire driven ammunition reduced time of flight (DART) guided ammunition designed to engage fast manoeuvrings targets.

In addition, the VULCANO GPS-guided long-range ammunition has been designed to engage a target with an high-accuracy, as well as the multi feeding (MF) device for the ammunition automatic handling.
