The agreement, which extends through 2033, also allows for support of future Columbia-class submarines as well as allied navies globally.
These communications systems are intended to improve situational awareness and facilitate secure information exchange among submarine crews using advanced technology.
L3Harris Technologies maritime, space and mission systems president Nino DiCosmo said: “The ability for submarines to operate undetected is vital to the US Navy’s strategic advantage.
“With decades of experience in submarine technology and in partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat, L3Harris will deliver highly reliable, undetectable communications systems to enhance operational effectiveness.”

By GlobalDataL3Harris has a longstanding history of supporting US Navy submarine programmes, including prior work on the Ohio– and Los Angeles-class vessels.
The Virginia-class is a nuclear-powered attack submarine designed for both deep ocean anti-submarine warfare and operations in shallower waters.
The Columbia-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, being built by General Dynamics’ subsidiary Electric Boat in partnership with Newport News Shipbuilding, will replace the Ohio-class as the primary element of the US’ sea-based nuclear deterrent capability.
The US Navy plans to invest $132bn in procuring 12 Columbia-class submarines.
In September last year, Austal USA also selected L3Harris Technologies as the sole system vendor for the integration of electric and propulsion systems on the first T-AGOS-25-class ocean surveillance ship.
This class of ships will provide surveillance support for US Navy fleets operating in both the Atlantic and Pacific regions.
