Once developed, the antenna is expected to work as an enabler to fuse multi-band, multi-orbit capacity, delivering high-powered bandwidth aboard next-gen naval vessels at sea.

To assist during challenging conditions at sea, the technological development will deliver data over a single platform.

It will support multiple links over multiple bands of satellite capacity including S-, C-, Ka-, Ku-, X-, and Q-band connectivity, allowing real-time communications.

Throughout this year, Isotropic Systems will conduct a series of environmental and interference chamber tests.

DIU will analyse the performance of the optical beamforming terminals during the test and will prototype the final development. The impact of harsh elements on the antennas will be evaluated, preparing the navy ships for new installations.

Isotropic Systems’ terminal features optical lens modules.

It will provide an antenna design, aiding the switch between satellites in multiple orbits, and will assist connectivity during turbulent conditions at rough seas.

The collaborative terminal reviews of DIU with Isotropic Systems are expected to commence in the lab.

Isotropic Systems CEO and founder John Finney said: “Isotropic Systems has cracked the code for a new age of seamless and secure connectivity and communications in some of the most challenging conditions facing government agencies and military operations around the globe.

“This important effort is potentially a major milestone that will ultimately lead to ultra-high-speed data delivery and real-time national security advantages that come with integrated government networks.

“We will enable the navy and other government forces and agencies to arbitrage all the capacity it needs from across low-earth, geosynchronous-equatorial and medium-earth orbit constellations over a single multi-beam platform.”
