The Queen of England said in an official statement: “At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation’s history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.

“I am certain we are up to that challenge. You can be assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part.”

The Queen hosted the captains of HMS Queen Elizabeth in her final official duty prior to retiring to Windsor Castle.

The event also included discussions regarding the activities of the future flagship and 700 service men and women.

HMS Queen Elizabeth previous commanding officer Commodore Steve Moorhouse and the current commanding officer Captain Angus Essenhigh were part of the meeting.
