Swedish defence company Saab has received a Skr1.7bn ($193.4m) order to provide RBS15 anti-ship missile for the German Navy.  

The order was placed by Saab’s German partner Diehl Defence as part of a framework agreement between the two companies.

The framework agreement offers the possibility for additional procurement in the future, where Saab’s share is up to around Skr1.5bn.  

The agreement allows orders to be placed until the end of 2024. 

Deliveries of the missiles are scheduled to take place between 2022 and 2026 and the order includes related equipment and services.  

The RBS15 missiles and launcher systems will be installed on the Braunschweig-class corvettes of the German Navy.

Saab president and CEO Micael Johansson said: “We are proud to continue to support the German Navy with additional RBS15 systems. This framework agreement is an important milestone in our long-standing cooperation with Diehl Defence and our relationship with Germany.

“We look forward to continue building our partnership and supporting the German Navy’s capability with our state-of-the-art anti-ship missile systems.” 

Diehl Defence Corporate Division Board CEO and president Helmut Rauch added: “The new contract award is a sign of confidence from the German Navy and government authorities toward Diehl Defence and its strategic cooperation with Saab in the field of modern weapon systems destined for the navy.” 

RBS15 offers long-range all-weather anti-ship and sea denial capability to the naval operators and can be deployed on multiple platforms. It is currently in use with armed forces of many nations.

In 2018, Saab introduced its new RBS15 Gungnir anti-ship missile system at the Farnborough International Airshow 2018 in the UK.
