Exail has secured a new contract valued at around €40m ($46m) to supply several hundred additional K-Ster mine neutralisation vehicles to European navies through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

This order follows the framework agreement established earlier in 2024, which allows Alliance navies to acquire these systems quickly via an accelerated procurement process.

According to Exail, the procurement will see the K-Ster vehicles assembled at Exail’s Ostend facility in Belgium.

The site, which began operations in 2022, is now fully functioning and supports major mine countermeasure (MCM) modernisation initiatives across Europe.

The newly ordered vehicles will reinforce the K-Ster fleets of NATO navies and are intended to support sea line security and safeguard critical maritime infrastructure.

They are also expected to strengthen control over underwater domains, aligning with strategic objectives identified by European nations.

Exail maritime systems business line head Jérôme Bendell said: “We are very proud to see European navies renewing their confidence in our mine neutralization solutions. This new order confirms both the proven operational reliability of K-Ster and Exail’s central role in supporting the modernization of MCM capabilities for NATO navies.

“With our Ostend site now fully scaled up, we are prepared to support navies in the deployment of next-generation MCM capabilities.”

In June last year, Exail was chosen to provide the Indonesian Navy with multiple unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and mine identification and disposal systems (MIDS) for delivering a fully integrated unmanned MCM capability.

The contract includes four Exail Inspector 90 USVs in addition to Seascan and K-Ster MIDS. These systems will be deployed from two new next-generation MCM motherships, KRI Pulau Fani and KRI Pulau Fanildo.
