General Dynamics Electric Boat has secured a contract modification worth $432m to provide research and development services for the US Navy’s Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines.
The contractor is set to perform research and development of new technologies, lead-yard services and other design improvements for the submarines under the deal.
Colombia-based scientific and technological research organisation COTECMAR and Thales have signed a co-operation agreement to strengthen Colombia’s naval capabilities.
The partners intend to develop advanced solutions for the naval sector in areas such as command and control systems, combat systems, sonars and radars, as well as communications and information solutions.
The latest agreement is an extension of an earlier deal that was originally signed in 2015.

US shipyard Bath Iron Works has been awarded a contract modification for work on the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyers.
The contractor is slated to provide engineering and technical support services for new-build DDG 51 destroyers under the revised agreement.
