The US Department of the Navy has selected EM Key Solutions (EMKS) as a prime contractor for the $52.5bn, multiple-award Seaport Next Generation (Seaport-NxG) contract.

Up to 1,870 contracts are being awarded by the US Navy to various companies to provide support services for the Seaport-NxG programme.

EMKS will compete with other awardees for individual task orders to provide support services for the US Naval Sea Systems Command, the US Marine Corps, and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, as part of the programme.

The ten-year Seaport-NxG contract includes providing engineering support and programme management services in 23 functional areas, including software development, design documentation, financial analysis, and logistics support.

Aery Aviation has also been selected as the prime contractor to provide professional services for the Seaport-NxG contract.

General Dynamics Information Technology has been awarded an $898m to deliver solutions for the US Navy and Marine Corps’ warfighting requirements, under the navy cyber mission engineering support contract.

The US Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic, through Marshall Communications, has awarded a contract to Hughes Network Systems for the supply of approximately 200 Hughes 9211 Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminals.

The company will deliver Hughes 9211 BGAN high data rate (HDR) terminals to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic (SSC Atlantic) for portable and mobile mission-critical military communications.

Hughes 9211 BGAN is a tablet-sized package HDR terminal featuring built-in compass and audio tone.

Based in Maryland, US, Hughes Network Systems is a subsidiary of EchoStar and involved in providing satellite-based internet services.

The UK Royal Navy has awarded a mission system support contract to BAE Systems.

The company’s Maritime Integration Support Centre (MISC) in Portsmouth is responsible for providing mission system support to the US Navy’s two largest aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, under an updated integration service agreement called NCSISS phase 2.2.

The deal is part of the Naval Combat Systems Integration Support Services (NCSISS) contract signed in March 2012.

Defence technology companies QinetiQ and DE&S are collaborating with BAE Systems to improve operational readiness of the Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.
