Damen Naval has signed a contract with ship classification society DNV to provide certification services for the German Navy’s new F126 frigates.
The classification and verification contract was signed at DNV Maritime headquarters. The German ship classification society will execute extensive work and conduct in-depth ship verifications and surveys.

Work will be carried out in German cities Hamburg, Wolgast and Kiel throughout the entire of project duration.
Commenting on the signing, Damen Naval managing director Hein van Ameijden said: “Together we will ensure that standards and safety levels on the frigates meet the most stringent requirements in the interests of the sailors who will be serving on board.
“When carrying out their duties, they should be safe in the knowledge that they have the very best materials to hand.”
After the successful bidding that took place last year, Damen Naval is building the four frigates together with its partners Blohm+Voss and Thales.

By GlobalDataThe four ships will serve as a multi-mission platform and will be commissioned by the German Navy as F126 frigates.
The F126 frigate will be armed with a 127mm main gun with Vulcano extended-range precision ammunition. It will also be fitted with medium and short-range anti-aircraft missiles, water cannons, heavy machine guns, and light marine guns.
The German Navy is expected to receive the first ship in 2028.
For the past two decades, DNV has provided support in the plan approval of designs, inspection and survey of newbuilding, and the verification and certification of several German combat units.
DNV naval business director vice-president Christian von Oldershausen said: “Our cooperation with the German Navy spans several decades and has resulted in the development of the DNV Naval Technical Assurance concept, which independent, but making use of our classification processes and procedures, enables required approvals and certifications to be carried out in accordance to standards specified by the client.
“This concept will also be used for the F126.”
