CIRCOR International has secured six contracts to provide ball valves for Block V of the Virginia Class Submarine programme for the US Navy.

Under the $18m-valued contracts, the six shipsets of valves will be delivered over the next three years.

The company has supplied valves for the Virginia-class submarine since the programme started 20 years ago.

Circor was awarded the contract following the announcement made by the US Navy for its shipbuilding contract.

The navy awarded a $22.2bn contract to General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding for the development of nine Virginia-Class Block V attack submarines.

Circor Aerospace & Defense Division president Tony Najjar said: “For over 30 years, we have had the privilege of providing America’s naval fleets with the highest quality fluid control technologies.

For around 110 years, Warren Pumps, a Circor International brand, has been offering pumping applications for the US military and other industrial and marine customers.

In April 2016, HII laid the keel of the US Navy’s newest Virginia Class attack submarine, Delaware (SSN 791), at Newport News Shipbuilding.

The submarine is equipped with 12 vertical missile launch tubes and four 533mm torpedo tubes. The vertical launching system has the capacity to launch 16 Tomahawk submarine-launched cruise missiles (SLCM) in a single salvo.
