A 3D printed aircraft has been patented by Airbus which uses a shell-like structural component which is manufactured by a method using additive layer manufacturing for the creation of wings and a fuselage, among other applications.
Boeing has been issued a patent that would enable a message to be communicated from an aircraft. The system and method includes valves and nozzles which are distributed along wing of the aircraft and a fluid tank. A controller actuates valves which then generates a cloudburst from the content received at nozzles and is suspended in the air that displays the message.
Boeing is granted a patent that relates to a transportation pod that deploys from an aircraft or vehicle and descends to safely land. The pod is attached to an aircraft or vehicle. The pod includes walls that extend around and form a contained interior space that houses one or more travellers or cargo containers. During flight of the aircraft or vehicle, the pod deploys from the aircraft or vehicle while at an elevation above ground. A landing location is determined for the pod. While the pod is descending, the pod is steered towards and lands at the landing location.
