The US Navy has taken delivery of its seventh expeditionary fast transport (EPF) vessel, USNS Carson City (EPF 7), from an Austal-led team in a ceremony held at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.

USNS Carson City is the second vessel delivered by Austal to the US Navy this month.

Austal CEO David Singleton said that the delivery of the latest EPF is further evidence of Austal USA’s success in efficient, modern shipbuilding and expertise in modular manufacturing.

"Our hard working, highly skilled workforce continues to deliver on this important programme."

The 338ft-long shallow draft aluminium catamaran vessel can be deployed to conduct multiple missions and features high volume, speed, and flexibility in its operation.

Austal is currently constructing three more EPFs at its Mobile shipyard under a $1.6bn block-buy ten-ship contract for the US Navy.

The future USNS Yuma (EPF 8) is scheduled to be christened this summer, following which it will be launched.

The first aluminium was cut for USS Burlington (EPF 10) earlier this month, while modules for the City of Bismarck (EPF 9) are currently under construction at Austal’s module manufacturing facility (MMF).
