Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract for the production and operations of next generation handheld targeting system (NGHTS) for the US Marine Corps (USMC).
According to the US Department of Defense (DoD) announcement, the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price and cost-plus-fixed-fee contract has an estimated value of $252m.

This award will allow Northrop Grumman to undertake low-rate initial production and full-rate production of NGHTS.
The company will also provide associated engineering, test, logistics, training and other support services along with the necessary spare parts and documentation.
The DoD said that the contract is expected to complete by February 2030 and all the related work will be carried out in Apopka, Florida.

“NGHTS is lightweight and combines four systems into one portable device with state-of-the-art imaging, targeting, ranging, designating and networking. This compact, multi-sensor electro-optical/infrared device lightens Marines’ loads and keeps them connected while adding precision and safety to their missions.”
The latest production contract builds on the previous other transaction authority contract awarded to Northrop Grumman for developing the initial prototype of targeting system.
The new compact targeting system has been designed to provide advanced precision targeting capability to the forces in Global Positioning System (GPS)-denied areas.
Equipped with advanced range finder and designator, the NGHTS can be used for laser spot imaging functions, rapid target acquisition and laser terminal guidance operation.
It also features a celestial compass, high-precision GPS receiver, three sensors, including colour day, low-light and thermal imager, along with improved Graphical User Interface to deliver sharp and clear image.
