Arcline Investment Management’s portfolio company Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) has received a purchase order to support the US Navy’s 16th San Antonio-class vessel LPD 32.

The new order has been awarded by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII).

Under this order, FMD will be responsible for the production and delivery of four main propulsion diesel engines that will power the US Navy’s newest amphibious transport dock LPD 32.

All the four new engines will have common rail technology that minimises carbon emissions and offers improved fuel efficiency, while maximising the vessel’s performance.

Apart from LPD 32, FMD was selected by the US Navy to deliver main engines, featuring common rail system, for USS Harrisburg (LPD 30) and USS Pittsburgh (LPD 31).

FMD is also a preferred contractor for providing various turnkey services and mission-critical marine technology for the US Navy and Military Sealift Command.

The latest purchase order comes after HII was awarded a $240m advance procurement contract in June this year for the construction of the US Navy’s ship LPD 32.

According to HII, the funds from this contract were designated for purchasing the vessel’s long-lead material and associated equipment.

Once constructed, LPD 32 will be the third San Antonio-class LPD ship in Flight II configuration.
