The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded an engine support contract to marine engineering and propulsion specialist company Royston.
As per the five-year contract, the company will maintain the small diesel engines on the Royal Navy vessels.

Defence Minister Jeremy Quin said: “This £5.5m contract will maintain and support the vital small diesel engines of our Royal Navy fleet.
“The five-year agreement will also secure highly skilled work in the North East’s marine industry, highlighting the region’s contribution to UK defence.”
The engines include Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins, and Volvo Penta. These power Type 23 frigates, single role mine hunters, Hunt-class minesweepers, Albion-class amphibious ships, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary Bay-class vessels.
Royston will provide diesel engine spares and technical support, as well as engine repair and refurbishment when needed.

By GlobalDataIt will also be responsible for the diagnostic, technical support, and servicing of the engines that are on the vessels or those in the workshop facilities for repair.
Royston CEO Sarah Wade said: “This contract reflects the engineering skills, capabilities and expertise that we can provide to customers around the world.
“We will be working closely with the Royal Navy and RFA, who are investing in their supply chain partners to secure service quality, consistency and improved operational efficiencies.”
Last month, two Royal Navy minehunters HMS Chiddingfold and Penzance participated in an eight-day Anglo-American mine hunting exercise.
