Sonardyne International has launched the Vigilant forward-looking sonar (FLS), which provides collision avoidance capability for naval, commercial, passenger and private vessels.
FLS provides mariners with subsurface situational awareness as it offers live and past vessel track, detailed 3D bathymetry out to 600m, and automated warnings of unseen collision hazards on and beneath the waterline out to 1.5km.

The sonar is compact in size and comes with mounting options for use on new and retro-fit vessels.
Furthermore, it is suitable for vessels of all sizes and types, expedition cruises, research and exploration, coastguard, private yachts, and merchant shipping.
The new sensor technology supports naval platforms, right from military ships to diver delivery systems (DDS) foraying into challenging operational zones.
Once underway, Vigilant offers crew with an early warning of hazards, such as rocks, wrecks, sand banks and other below-the-surface obstacles over a 90° field of view.

Vigilant supports onboard automatic control and obstacle avoidance systems for unmanned surface vehicles. These features enable below the waterline awareness.
It provides two operational modes of 3D and sonar. These modes allow the helmsman and vehicle pilots to seamlessly switch between the two.
The sonar mode detects obstacles in the water up to a distance of 1,500m, providing time for the vessels to avoid danger. The system uses configurable alarms to ensure no hazards are overlooked.
In 3D mode, users can easily interpret a real-time generated 3D colour map of the bathymetry out to 600m. This enables the identification of safe and unsafe areas, while sonar mode continues to function in the background.
Users can also view the profile display, indicating the depth of obstacles on the vessel’s heading.
Vigilant offers multiple mounting and integration options, including permanent, through-hull deployment.
It interfaces with third-party command and control systems or electronic charting displays.
