The US Navy has awarded a contract to Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division to deliver planning yard services in support of in-service littoral combat ships (LCS).

With a potential total value of $931.7m, the cost-plus-award-fee contract includes options over a six-year period. In addition, the contract provides work packages for HII’s technical solutions division.

Under the contract, Ingalls Shipbuilding will provide post-delivery lifecycle support to the LCS programme.

The support covers fleet modernisation programme planning, design engineering and modelling, logistics support, long-lead-time material support, as well as preventative and planned maintenance system development and scheduling.

Furthermore, Ingalls will be responsible for managing scheduling of all planned, continuous and emergent maintenance and associated availabilities.

HII will conduct most of the contract work in Pascagoula and Hampton, Virginia, US.

To deliver the work, the company will engage designers, engineers, logisticians, planners, programme managers and additional subject matter experts.

The contract also covers waterfront support in the LCS homeports.

Ingalls is currently building four classes of military ships to serve the US Navy and Coast Guard. These vessels include amphibious assault ships (LHAs), amphibious transport docks (LPDs), guided missile destroyers (DDGs) and national security cutters (NSCs).

Meanwhile, the division has delivered the NSC Midgett (WMSL 757) to the US Coast Guard. Midgett is expected to be commissioned later this year.
