The Australian Department of Defence has chosen Raytheon Australia to work as the country’s Aegis combat systems integration agent.
Defence Minister Christopher Pyne said a limited request for tender has been issued to Raytheon to establish a Deed of Standing Offer (DSO).

Under the DSO, which is expected to take effect by mid-2019, the company will offer Aegis combat system integration support. The value of the contract will be $40m over the next six years.
The Aegis combat management system will be integrated on to the Hunter-class frigates. The combat system is already deployed on the Hobart-class air warfare destroyers.
Pyne said: “Raytheon Australia will provide defence with their demonstrated expertise for the successful implementation, evolution and continuous development of Aegis combat systems in our current and future surface combatants.
“Selecting Raytheon Australia for this limited tender will provide workforce continuity and allow the Department of Defence to leverage from their recent Aegis experience gained as the Combat System Integrator role for the Hobart-class destroyers.

Raytheon will work with the Department of Defence’s agent to ensure that the 9LV systems are integrated successfully on the Hunter-class.
In October 2017, the Australian Government mandated Saab to provide its 9LV combat management system for the Royal Australian Navy’s new offshore patrol vessels and replenishment ships.
Saab Australia was also selected by BAE Systems in November to be part of a team, including Lockheed Martin Australia, to deliver the combat system integration for the Hunter-class frigate.
Built by Lockheed Martin, the Aegis system has the ability to defend against attack from land targets, submarines, and surface ships while automatically providing protection from incoming threats such as aircraft cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.
The integrated radar and missile system is equipped with SPY-1 multi-function phased array radar.
