H-53E has been designed as a heavy-lift aircraft that supports the two US services in a wide range of missions, both at domestically and internationally.

As part of the project, the company will provide repair, upgrades, spares, obsolescence mitigation and asset management services to the aircraft fleets over a period of four years.

“Our support infrastructure and past performance-based logistics successes will result in Sikorsky continuing to reliably provide mission support critical to the warfighter.”

The expanded agreement will also include work on the additional readiness-critical components, including main and tail rotor blades, main gearbox, main rotor head, flight control components and other accessories.

Sikorsky Marine Corps In-Service Programs senior programme manager Pierre Garant said: “We expect the expanded performance-based logistics to measurably improve material availability and reduce support cost while increasing overall aircraft readiness.

Compatible with the US Navy’s most amphibious-class vessels, the CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy lift-helicopter deployed by the USMS to transport heavy material and supplies.

The US Navy’s MH-53E Sea Dragon assists the service in carrying out long-range minesweeping missions, in addition to additional heavy-lift duties. It is primarily designed for airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM), with secondary missions of vertical shipboard delivery and assault support.
