Kongsberg’s ST2400 has been specifically designed to enable the vessels to conduct the precise and reliable detection of submarines, mines and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) in littoral waters.

"We look forward to continue to improve and develop our system to operate in probably the world’s toughest ASW environment, together with the Finnish Navy."

The ST2400 sonar upgrade is intended equip all four of the Finnish Navy Hamina-class corvettes operating in the Baltics with anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities.

Kongsberg Maritime Subsea Naval Sales director Thomas Hostvedt Dahle said: “The Finnish Navy has been our key partner from the early development of the first ST240 VDS in the ’90s to the latest version of the ST2400 VDS that we have today.

“It has been field tested in challenging conditions in the very shallow parts of the Baltics, where reverberation issues and layers are dominant.

“We look forward to continue to improve and develop our system to operate in probably the world’s toughest ASW environment, together with the Finnish Navy.”

The ST2400 VDS is a medium-frequency sonar that features a compact design and weighs less than 3t.

It is designed to be particularly capable of operating in shallow waters and can be easily deployed for high-speed manoeuvring.

The sonar features omnidirectional coverage and is capable of operating in harsh acoustic environments without limiting the manoeuvrability of the Hamina-class vessels.
