Saab is set to deliver its new Sea Giraffe AMB naval radar system to the US Navy in support of a planned Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal.

The US Navy intends to export the AN / SPS-77 naval radar system to the Philippines under the estimated $25m sales agreement, which was originally requested by Philippines Government in December 2016.

"With Sea Giraffe AMB currently part of three separate US Navy programmes, this contract further strengthens Saab’s position as a trusted supplier for the US Navy."

The FMS will cover the acquisition of two AN / SPS-77 Sea Giraffe 3D air search radars, as well as the provision of support services such as installation, operator training, system operational testing and documentation.

Saab’s Sea Giraffe AMB radar systems will be mounted on-board two Philippine Navy frigates, known as BRP Gregorio del Pilar (FF-15) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (FF-16) respectively.

The ships formerly served as US Coast Guard (USCG) Hamilton-class cutter vessels.

The sale also includes Saab’s 9LV naval combat management system (CMS) for radar control and display, which is expected to ensure increased situational awareness.
