The Pakistan Navy has carried out a successful test firing of its indigenously built submarine-launched cruise missile (SLMC), Babur.
The Babur-III SLMC features a range of 450km and was fired from an underwater dynamic platform during the exercise.

According to a release by Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the missile also met all the required flight parameters.
The test firing was carried out in the presence of the DG Strategic Plans Division (SPD), NESCOM chairman Dr Nabeel Hayat Malik and the Commander Naval Strategic Force Command (NSFC), as well as a variety of senior officials, scientists and engineers from strategic scientific organisations.
The latest flight test represents Pakistan’s second trial to be conducted using the Babur missile and follows an initial test that was carried out in January last year, reported Financial Express.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the official statement noted that Pakistan’s development of a second-strike capability demonstrates its response to various provocative nuclear strategies and postures currently being pursued in the region via the induction of nuclear submarines and ship-borne nuclear missiles, which are said to be contributing to the nuclearisation of the Indian Ocean.
The Pakistan Navy’s Babur missile is capable of delivering different types of payloads and is incorporated with latest technologies such as underwater controlled propulsion, as well as advanced guidance and navigation features.
The Pakistan ISPR also stated that the SLCM provides the navy with a credible second-strike capability, while further contributing to the existing deterrence regime.
