The Indian Navy’s Talwar-class frigate INS Tarkash (F50) has successfully sailed in formation with the vessels of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (CSG).
Units from the Theodore Roosevelt CSG present during the event included the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88) and the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71, as well as the guided-missile destroyers USS Halsey (DDG 97) and USS Sampson (DDG 102).

The initiative has been carried out as a naval greeting and training exercise between participating partner nations as the Theodore Roosevelt CSG transitions from fighting ISIS during deployment in the Arabian Gulf to conducting missions in the US 7th Fleet area of operations, including counter-piracy, freedom of navigation operations and training activities.
Exercises conducted during the event included drills relating to communications and navigating in several close formations, while warfare commanders from the US Navy and Indian Navy ships practised working in collaboration, in addition to strengthening the ship-handling capabilities of the vessels’ respective crews.
USS Preble commanding officer commander Allen Maxwell Junior said: “This exercise offered a unique opportunity to further our capabilities to operate with, and learn from, one another.
“It’s an excellent test for our watchstanders to exercise their flexibility as warfighters and to interact with foreign vessels in a tactical environment.
