The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) of fast patrol boats to Kuwait.
The probable FMS to the Government of Kuwait has an estimated value of $100m and been approved by the US State Department.

It is slated to cover the sale of 15 fast patrol boats integrated with 36 units of 0.50-calibre machine guns, as well as a further two guns to be installed on-board every vessel and six spares.
The possible deal is intended to improve Kuwait’s security capabilities and will also cover US Government and contractor engineering, training, technical, and logistical support services, in addition to other associated logistical and programme support services.
US Government personnel and contractor representatives will be required to provide technical reviews, training and maintenance support to Kuwait for a 24-month period in order to implement the deal.
The FMS will also call for three contractor representatives to support the programme in country for a period of two years.

The Kuwait Naval Force intends to procure the fast patrol boats to improve its patrol, interdiction and maritime protection abilities.
The acquisition of the vessels will also help the navy develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defence capability.
