The US Navy’s Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) has successfully concluded an ordnance onload on schedule.
The five-day operation was carried out at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach in order to prepare the vessel for deployment in the Western Pacific region.

It involved the transfer of Tomahawk missile containers from storage to the pier, removing the containers from a protective brace, rotating them to a vertical position and using a crane to lift them onto the vessel before placing them in the missile cells.
Personnel from guided missile cruiser’s weapons department worked in close collaboration with civilian staff from the weapons station in order to ensure the safety and efficiency of the loading process.
USS Lake Champlain commanding officer captain Jen Ellinger said: “The crew did a fantastic job pre-planning and orchestrating the deployment onload.
“They were so organised that they were able to overcome the weather setbacks so that we were able to complete the onload and depart on time.”

The Ticonderoga-class vessel is operated by more than 350 crew members and has the capability to carry Tomahawk missiles and Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) surface-to-air missiles, in addition to two 5in dual-purpose guns and two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters.
