BAE Systems has received a seven-year contract for the Royal Navy’s Joint Support Solution 2 (JSS 2) programme.
The company will provide mission-critical combat systems support for up to 38 British Royal Navy vessels under the deal, which has been awarded by the UK Ministry of Defence’s Maritime Combat Systems unit.

The JSS 2 programme is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the vessels’ combat management systems, tactical networks and shared infrastructures.
Dutch shipyard Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding has placed an order with Netherlands-based electronics company Bakker Sliedrecht for an electrical auxiliary propulsion system.
The propulsion system will comprise two 1,325kW Indar electric propulsion motors and two water-cooled, active front-end variable-frequency drives, and will be installed on-board a SIGMA 10514 long-range patrol vessel.
The system has been designed to provide a direct connection between two drives of the propulsion unit and the patrol vessel’s electricity grid.

By GlobalDataGeneral Dynamics Electric Boat has placed an order worth roughly $468m with Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding division for work on the US Navy’s 12 new Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarines.
The deal will see Newport News Shipbuilding begin the integrated product and process development for the new submarines, which are intended to replace the current Ohio-class submarines.
The contractor will begin construction of the Columbia-class in 2021, with the first delivery planned for 2028.
Bechtel Corporation subsidiary Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc has been awarded a component supply contract worth $571.3m by the US Navy.
Bechtel will supply naval nuclear propulsion components for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme (NNPP) under the arrangement.
The components will be installed on-board a variety of aircraft carriers and submarines.
The US Navy has awarded a contract worth $79.3m to The Boeing Company to provide support services for F/A-18A-F multi-role fighter aircraft and electronic warfare aircraft.
Boeing is expected to offer engineering, repair and maintenance, instrumentation and parts manufacturing services under the five-year deal.
The agreement will also see Boeing provide support services for future aircraft variants, domestic and foreign military sales customers, and test programmes led by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division.
