Kelvin Hughes has secured a contract from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to supply I band and E / F band SharpEye radars for the Philippine Navy.
The deal will see Kelvin Hughes supply two SharpEye navigation radars with accompanying multifunction bridge radar displays for the Philippine Navy Frigate Acquisition Project (FAP).

HHI was previously awarded the Philippine Navy FAP in October 2016, which will involve the construction of two 2,600t frigates.
Delivery of the vessels is scheduled to begin in 2020.
The SharpEye radar systems have been designed to provide advanced pulse-compressed Doppler navigation.
The radar’s situational awareness capability provides early warning of the presence of larger vessels, as well as small targets and asymmetric threats with a low radar cross sections (RCS) such as rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs), small wooden boats, unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and jet skis.

By GlobalDataSharpEye is designed to operate in the I and E / F frequency bands and will allow the ships to distinguish between genuine targets such unmanned aerial vehicles, drones and helicopters, and environmental clutter even in the most adverse weather conditions, Kelvin Hughes stated.
The system enables short, medium and long range radar returns to be detected simultaneously by transmitting a patented low-power pulse sequence.
Kelvin Hughes Regional Sales manager Mark Butler said: “SharpEye is ideally suited to frigates, corvettes and OPVs operating in high clutter conditions and for navies undertaking modernisation programmes where the upmast equipment contributes to the stealth or RCS reduction requirements.”
Additionally, Kelvin Hughes was also contracted by HHI to supply the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) Maritime Sustainment Capability (MSC) vessel in September.
