HII has expanded its uncrewed systems production facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, by 25%, responding to heightened global requirements for autonomous maritime technology.
The additional 10,000ft2 increases the manufacturing campus to a total of 50,000ft2, the company said in a 22 September release.

The expanded Pocasset facility enhances HII’s ability to deliver advanced systems such as the REMUS family of uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs), the ROMULUS uncrewed surface vessel (USV), and the Lionfish small uncrewed undersea vehicle (SUUV) for the US Navy.
Derived from HII’s REMUS 300 commercial platform, Lionfish production is currently underway, supported by a recently awarded option-year contract from the Navy.
Production of the REMUS 620 UUV will also take place at the enhanced site.
New infrastructure at the campus supports greater integration of HII’s Odyssey Autonomous Control Solutions (ACS) software, which underpins maritime autonomy and simulation capabilities across multiple vehicles and mission types.
The company stated that this software suite will be central to supporting more complex, integrated maritime operations and autonomy hardware for the ROMULUS USVs.
HII mission technologies division, unmanned systems group president Duane Fotheringham said: “Today’s expansion reflects HII’s continued investment in the people, technology and partnerships that have made us a leader in unmanned maritime capabilities and placed New England at the centre for maritime innovation.
“By bringing together advanced unmanned platforms, autonomy, integration, simulation and modelling capabilities, we are expanding our ability to deliver the maritime systems our customers need while continuing to create high-quality jobs here in Massachusetts.”
HII, which is headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, currently employs about 300 people at Pocasset. It added 50 employees so far this year, in line with ongoing workforce increases.
According to the company, the site’s expansion underscores the company’s commitment to the Cape Cod region and its broader Blue Economy, which encompasses research, engineering, and skilled manufacturing in the marine sector.
HII’s local operations have a longstanding partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), supporting the advancement of underwater autonomous technologies.
The expansion follows HII’s second-quarter 2026 announcement raising its full-year shipbuilding revenue guidance to between $10.2bn and $10.4bn.
In June this year, HII expanded its portfolio of autonomous maritime systems with the delivery of the first REMUS 130 UUV.
