Virtuix has selected AVRT to deliver weapons tracking technology and content development for the Infantry Fireteam Virtual Trainer (IFVT), an immersive simulation platform currently under development for operational assessment by the US Marine Corps (USMC). 

Virtuix, acting as the system’s lead integrator, is collaborating with its strategic partner KBR to develop the IFVT.

The training platform leverages full-body motion capture, AI-driven virtual environments, synthetic weapons, and instructor control systems.  

According to Virtuix, the system aims to provide operationally relevant training and replicate the physical and cognitive demands of modern infantry combat. 

The collaboration will see AVRT supply its tracked weapon system and instructor tools for integration with Virtuix’s Omni One locomotion platform.  

This technology combination is designed to allow trainees to walk, run, crouch, and interact in a 360-degree virtual space, moving beyond joystick- or room-scale-based navigation.  

Four Marines can train simultaneously, manoeuvring as an infantry fireteam through a variety of combat scenarios.  

The system uses tracked M4 rifle surrogates and Meta Quest headsets, with instructors able to monitor and review training exercises in real time. 

The IFVT is designed to support a range of infantry missions, such as close-quarters battle, patrol operations, threat identification, tactical decision-making under stress, and mission rehearsal.  

Virtuix stated that virtual simulation significantly reduces the logistics and costs associated with live-fire or field exercises.

Delivery of the initial system to the US Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia, is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.  

According to Virtuix, if the system demonstrates operational value, it could be adopted more widely across Marine Corps training centres in the US, further integrating VR-based infantry training within the service. 

Beyond the infantry trainer, Virtuix reported recent activity in its defence business, including a US Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award, new agreements with the US Navy, sales to the US Army and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, and collaborations on technology projects for NASA and Tesla.
