Diehl Defence and BAE Systems have agreed to collaborate on the development of maritime defence systems, with a focus on integrating Diehl Defence’s 127mm ammunition into BAE Systems’ Mk 45 naval gun.
The partnership, which builds on a recent memorandum of understanding, aims to serve the German market as well as other international armed forces.

The initial phase of the agreement will see technical integration efforts centred around BAE Systems’ Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun, a fully automatic 127mm system known for its extended range of over 20 nautical miles (36km) and enhanced firing energy.
The Mk 45 Mod 4 is currently in service with the US Navy aboard Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and has been selected for the Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigates and the Royal Australian Navy’s Hunter-class ships.
Under the collaboration, Diehl Defence’s high-precision, long-range 127mm ammunition family will be adapted for use with the Mk 45 Mod 4, with both organisations also examining further opportunities in maritime defence technology.
The companies said they are exploring ways to integrate Diehl Defence’s IRIS-T family of guided missiles into BAE Systems’ portfolio of naval launching systems.
