Norwegian company Kongsberg has signed a partnership agreement with Naval Group aimed at bolstering naval capabilities and their market positions within the global defence industry.

This partnership focuses on the development, production, support, and shared marketing in the international market, leveraging both companies’ expertise.

The agreement follows nearly two years of dialogue between the companies.

Kongsberg president and CEO Geir Håøy said: “We look forward to exchanging our knowledge and skills with Naval Group.

“This partnership reflects two leading companies joining forces to create the best products within the defence industry in the future. The agreement signals a shared commitment to national security, Nato cooperation and an integrated European defence.”

The agreement signifies Naval Group’s ambition to emerge as a principal provider for the Royal Norwegian Navy. The collaboration is poised to address potential future needs and align with enduring national objectives.

The partnership covers ten subtopics, including the maintenance of frigates with full life support and the Vanguard System.

Other areas of cooperation include drones and man unmanned teaming (MUM-T), counter drone solutions, strike missiles, naval cyber, combat system, and naval collaborative combat.

Naval Group chairman and CEO Pierre Éric Pommellet said: “We are very honoured to sign this major agreement with Kongsberg. This very substantial partnership will allow both of us to share knowledge in defence and naval combat, in a very extensive way.”

Kongsberg said that the agreement is set to generate and secure hundreds of jobs in Norway and France, promoting innovation, industry, and business development.

The collaboration will also allow for the exchange of advanced technological expertise, fostering innovation in response to new threats and operational capabilities.

This partnership is expected to open new market opportunities, benefiting not only Kongsberg and its Norwegian industrial partners but also reinforcing the strategic partnership between Norway and France.

Earlier in May 2025, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace signed an agreement with BAE Systems to enhance industrial cooperation in support of defence needs of Norway, the UK, and allied countries.
