Willard Marine has secured an order from the US Navy to deliver five additional new-generation 11m-long rigid inflatable boats (RIBs).

This new development marks the navy exercising options on a contract signed in 2014, to deliver ten RIBs.

Under the latest order, Willard Marine is responsible for delivering three open centre console (OCC) boats that feature twin Cummins QSB6.7 380-hp engines.

The firm will also deliver two visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) boats equipped with twin Cummins QSB6.7 480-hp engines. All the boats will be installed with Hamilton Jet HJ292 water jets.

Willard Marine president and CEO Ulrich Gottschling said: "The United States Navy and other military agencies have relied upon Willard Marine vessels for nearly 40 years to safely transport service men and women and enable them to successfully complete their missions, often in very challenging sea conditions.

" It is with great pride and commitment that we continue building boats that our military can rely upon in all situations."

Last year, the US Navy ordered eight standard craft with an open centre console (OCC) configuration and two OCC LPD-17 class variants.

These new vessels will feature a 254hp inboard Steyr diesel engine with a Bravo Two X MerCruiser stern drive and will be equipped with a Briartek man-overboard indicator system display and antenna, in addition to a forward M60 / M240 machine gun foundation.

In February 2014, Willard Marine secured an order from the US Navy Foreign Military Sales (FMS) office to provide four aluminium patrol boats for the Ukrainian Navy.
