The US Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Systems Center Pacific has contracted Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS) to deliver the switchable common data link (CDL) split above and below decks radio systems.
The radio systems will be used to support sustainment of the AN/USQ-167 common data link system (CDLS) as well as offering enhanced operational effectiveness to the battle group commander with increased simultaneous connectivity.

Under the $1m contract, the CDL split radio subsystems delivered will be deployed on US Navy aircraft carriers and will provide wideband secure ship-to-air communications.
CMS president Mike Twyman said: "The US Navy requires additional simultaneous CDL link capabilities on CVN aircraft carriers (nuclear-powered) to support battle group force protection and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
"With Cubic’s CDL split radios, the system will not only offer secure communications simultaneously to multiple aircraft per US Navy requirements, but also pre-flight check-out capabilities to ensure successful operations."
As the US Navy’s first CDL system, the AN/USQ-167 CDLS is a high-speed wideband datalink that supports all standard CDL interfaces to facilitate a network-centric warfare.
