The US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has selected CGI for undersea warfare systems engineering and technical assistance.

Valued at $34.3m, the new contract will allow NAVSEA to receive support continuity and retain the long-term technical expertise provided by CGI personnel.

This one-year contract with NAVSEA’s Program Executive Office – Integrated Warfare Systems for Undersea Systems (PEO IWS 5) also includes two option years and two award terms.

CGI Federal president Tim Hurlebaus said: "CGI is proud to support Naval Sea Systems Command and its critical mission to support the combat readiness of US sailors and marines.

"By leveraging our long-term engagements with naval commands in both the air and sea domains, CGI has the expertise required to support combat technologies that help the navy defend the US and its allies around the world."

The PEO IWS 5 is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative solutions and technology life-cycle management for navy vessels that are stationed worldwide.

Established in 2002, the PEO IWS 5 covers surface ship and submarine combat technologies and systems, and has coordinated the Navy Open Architecture across 275 ship platforms so far.

The latest contract comes after NAVSEA selected CGI as a technology provider for the $50.3m contract of Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command’s (SPAWAR) to deliver IT support services for its ongoing data centre modernisation programme.
