The US Navy has reportedly released a video that shows an Iranian Revolutionary Guards vessel launching rockets near the aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The video was released by navy officials to the Military Times, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
During the transit, Truman was joined by the destroyer Bulkeley, the French frigate FS Provence, and other commercial ships.
According to US Central Command officials, the Iranians announced a live-fire exercise over the maritime radio, 23 minutes prior to the incident.
The unguided rockets reportedly came as close as 1,500 yards from Truman.
A US Navy Fifth Fleet spokesman commander Kevin Stephens was also quoted by MarinecorpsTimes as saying that firing weapons "so close to passing coalition ships and commercial traffic within an internationally recognised maritime traffic lane is unsafe, unprofessional and inconsistent with international maritime law."
Stephens further added: "While most interactions between Iranian forces and the US Navy are professional, safe, and routine, this event was not and runs contrary to efforts to ensure freedom of navigation and maritime safety in the global commons."
Meanwhile, Revolutionary Guard spokesman general Ramezan Sharif said: "The Guard’s Navy had no drills in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz and didn’t fire missiles or rockets during the past week and the time claimed by the Americans."
