Thales and ASV sign agreement to develop unmanned surface vehicle

Thales has entered into an agreement with UK-based ASV to engineer and develop a new autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) to bolster capability in maritime, civil, security, and military domains.

Thales has entered into an agreement with UK-based ASV to engineer and develop a new autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) to bolster capability in maritime, civil, security, and military domains.

The recent successful demonstration of Halcyon USV, a French-UK maritime mine counter measures programme (MMCM) asset, has prompted the companies to partner again to develop an automatic technology.

"This agreement allows both companies to comprehensively address the fast growing military and security domain."

ASV managing director Dan Hook said: "This agreement allows both companies to comprehensively address the fast growing military and security domain. Pairing ASV control system technology with Thales sensor and software capabilities combines both specialist expertise and unrivalled experience in creating and using these systems."

The Halcyon USV is an automatic platform engineered by ASV whose functionalities include speed, stability, manoeuvrability, and endurance.

It is incorporated with Thales’ mission and autonomy management systems, which enable it to offer a capable and cost-effective platform for the deployment of payloads for a wide range of maritime, civil, security, and military applications.
