The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has started scaling down military presence in Syria, following orders from the Russian Armed Forces Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin.

The move follows a ceasefire deal previously negotiated between Russia and Turkey to temporarily suspend war in Syria, according to media sources.

Russia's carrier group of the Northern Fleet will be the first to leave the conflict zone, Russian Armed Forces General of the Army Valery Gerasimov said.

"Military seamen of the Russian Navy have supported the liberation of Aleppo from terrorist formations."

The aircraft carrier group of the Northern Fleet, comprising heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy, the large anti-submarine warfare ship Severomorsk, as well as auxiliary vessels of the Black Sea Fleet, have been carrying out counterterrorist missions in Syria since November last year.

Military seamen of the Russian Navy have supported the liberation of Aleppo from terrorist formations.

Russian naval aviation pilots have carried out 420 combat sorties during a two-month participation in the combat actions.

Additionally, 1,252 terrorist facilities were hit, and strikes were made on infrastructure, concentrations of insurgents and military hardware, fire positions, and strong points of illegal armed groups.

The naval aviation also carried out more than 750 flights to perform rescue tasks, air reconnaissance and transport missions.
