Orbital ATK has been awarded a $30m production contract from the US Navy to manufacture AAR-47 missile warning systems.
The contract includes the production of new assemblies, including optical sensor converters and computer processors.
In addition, it has options for retrofitting weapon-replaceable assembly upgrades and Orbital ATK’s Countermeasures Signals Simulator to test systems operability.
Orbital ATK Defense Systems Group Defense Electronic Systems division vice-president and general manager Bill Kasting said: "This contract continues to provide the US Navy and Marine Corps [with] our demonstrated AAR-47 aircraft survivability system with hostile fire indication (HFI).
"In 2013, we completed [the] delivery of 500 systems, demonstrating our commitment to deliver affordable innovation on schedule and on budget to those who protect our nation."
Orbital ATK’s AAR-47 is an electronic warfare system designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from surface-to-air threats.
It is equipped with HFI capability that helps it detect a wider range of threats.
Orbital ATK Defense Group executive vice-president and president Mike Kahn said: "Orbital ATK is focused on assuring our military customers get the best force protection equipment with warning systems like the AAR-47 HFI."
The system is installed on fixed and rotary-wing aircraft that is used by the US and allies in more than 16 countries.
